Packing tips for childbirth and BB
I am now in week 40 (39+0 days), I am expecting baby number two. Our first daughter Zoë arrived in week 37, she was due on October 26, 2021 but already arrived on October 9. I wasn't prepared for that, so I hadn't had time to prepare either the birth certificate or pack the so-called BB bag :) But it went well anyway! ^^
As a second mother, I feel calm because I still have more experience than the last time. However, this pregnancy has not been like the first. I think this pregnancy has been heavier and more painful. Also thought somewhere that this baby would also "rush out". But no hehe.. I'm due on May 3rd so I haven't passed the time yet but I feel that this baby is "chilling" in my stomach right now and doesn't want to come out ;)
Anyway, the BB bag was what I was going to talk about. Using the best looking bag around! Yes, you can see for yourself. DaybyDay Catania '30 Monogram bag from Emmy Boo which you can buy at a 15% discount through April. The bag is handmade in Italy and you choose which color you want on the suede as well as text or initials. I chose to put my initials.
I've googled around for some relevant checklists for what to take with you in your BB bag and there are endless tips! Personally, I think the lists are very long, but I think that you pack according to your particular needs.
For example:
- How far from the birth you live
- If you have planned a caesarean section
- How many children are you expecting
- Whether you are a first-time mother or not
- If you have a lot of skin care products and hygiene items, medicines etc
- If you have a special diet
- If you want to give the delivery room a cozy factor (read lots of tips on everything from battery-powered lights to plastic flowers).
- Laptop, iPad + charger
The list and the need can be made long.
In my BB bag there is only the absolute essentials. Because according to my previous experience (and then I was on BB for almost 1 week) the days went by quickly and all the focus was on the baby and breastfeeding (I chose to breastfeed). I actually didn't care much about skin care(!) and I didn't think about make-up at all. I partly wore my own clothes, but also in the shirt and the "panties" you got after giving birth. You are actually very much half-naked as the baby will lie skin-to-skin and you hopefully have your own room.
I have therefore packed lightly:
For baby:
- Baby clothes: Body, trousers, hat and socks
- Baby outerwear (depending on the season)
- Baby blanket
- Baby pacifier
- Teddy bear and cuddly blanket (for snuggling and because it's cute)
- Soft baby hair brush
- Baby protection/car seat
To me:
- ID cards
- Soft big clothes
- Stretchy leggings that don't put pressure on the stomach
- Cuddly socks, comfortable underwear and 1 aming bra.
- Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shower cream, hairbrush, facial cleanser, mist, a facial oil and a skin cream. Also took a Gua Sha with me.
- Have also bought Natalben's Breastfeeding Capsules (vitamins/supplements)
- Lactose tablets (as I don't feel well from eating lactose)
- Sunglasses, if I want to "hide my tired face" when we leave BB ^^
- Hair ties
- Sweets, as I have my cravings for certain specific varieties.
- Laptop + charger
